- “I can not give a description for pornography, but I know when I see it”, — said a US Supreme Court Judge.
- A decree on civil rights conceptualized pornography as “a practice of sexual discrimination, which sexualizes the subordination of women and which eroticizes violent acts towards women” (III, 58, p. 435)
Then, a more specific description is provided: “Pornography stands for graphic and undisputed subordination of women through the use of images and/or words, which include one or several of the following:
- women are presented as dehumanized sexual objects or commodities;
- women are presented as sexual objects, which take pleasure in being hurt and put down
- women are presented as sexual objects, getting sexual pleasure from rape, incest or other sexual assaults;
- women are presented as sexual objects, tied down, cut or otherwise hurt, bleeding, or bruised;
- women are depicted in a pose of sexual submission, or servility
- the essence of womanhood is reduced to certain parts of a woman’s body (including, but not limited to vagina, breast, nipples);
- women are presented in scenes of degradation, humiliation, mutilation, torture; are shown as low, dirty, bleeding, or bruised in a presumably sexual situation” (III, 55, p.138-139)
- The law "On Culture" gives the following interpretation of pornography: “Pornography – is indecency and severe cynicism in depicting of anything, relating to sex or sexual intercourse”.
- Among the many unclear descriptions of pornography, there is one that goes like this: “Pornography is all that is indecent, which presents faces, position, actions implying unhealthy sexual concepts, where the author wishes to call out lascivious and lustful thoughts in the viewers”.
- Displaying child pornography or "kiddie porn" on the Internet is illegal in the United States. Child Pornography laws in the United States exist to protect children and are strictly enforced - websites that display any content that might be considered child pornography should expect to be prosecuted.
